Today on Piscor’s Magazine a beautiful midsummer session in the brackish water of the Roman canals.
A special day in search of sea bass in a protected oasis just a few steps from the chaotic capital. A small piece of paradise in which is possible to relax and spend time immersing yourself in different water activities, forgetting the stress and heat of summer.
The Colmic team is located right on the banks of one of the oldest Roman canals, whose first excavation dates back to 2000 years ago. The canal marks the border between the Tyrrhenian Sea and Lake Paola, a lake on whose shores stood the Domitian mansion.
Soon the Romans understood the potential of the area, which is inevitably affected by the tides of the Tyrrhenian Sea, and chose it to create a real valley dedicated to fishing both in the lake and in the brackish basins of the canals.
At high tide, the sea water pours into the canal, lightening the greenish water, making it clear and perfect for fishing as well as for refreshing swimming. The canals are therefore populated by countless typical marine fish: sea bream, sea bass, mullet and bream.
As it is pointed out, it is undoubtedly a privilege to be able to fish for an illibated place like the one that the experts of the Colmic team are fortunate enough to face.
As every time it is in front of a new fishing spot, there are many questions about the action and to clarify them it is first necessary to proceed with the standard procedure: measurement of the bottom, analysis of the morphology of the bottom, evaluation of the speed and type of flow, essential elements for the definition of the construction and calibration of the leaded crown and the setting to be thrown into the water.
With high quality products, such as those in the Colmic catalogue, there is no fear of immediately entering the water with thin setting to be more discreet in the hope that some beautiful fish will immediately catch the lines. The historic Fendreel, a new dress but of the same quality as always, is on reel.
The renewed packaging of this historic monofilament of Japanese origin corresponds to the most innovative chemical treatment that maximizes the fluidity and smoothness between the rings of the rod and ensures greater protection against corrosion and salt.
The main lines are made with F1 Spider, an avant-garde monofilament that combines NXGEN polymer with the top quality materials used in competition and the end lines with 40-50 cm lengths of the timeless 0.10 shot Riverge.
The setting is completed by a leaded crown, because it is the technique that will go for the most part in this session, to calibrate floats of about 1 gram equipped with hollow antenna. The weight of the float has been slightly raised because it was seen that at low tide the current was particularly strong.
At the end of the mounting hooks of the series B900 number 18/20 with trigger of double maggots pinned for the tip so as to make the most of their mobility and their liveliness or single maggot triggered in the center of the body.
There are several interesting fishing situations of the day such as the one presented by a small spot near a bridge where the formation of a vortex, pastured upstream with maggot, brings different sea bass to the landing net.
On a shallow seabed of no more than two meters, well oxygenated water that makes the fish active and combative, although the prey do not reach large size, the session is fast and fun showing once again the great quality of Colmic rods like the Royal S-100 whose perfectly parabolic action allows you to accompany the action of the fish without problems leaving the fisherman a very small margin of error.
Do not miss the complete session and the wonderful images of a pleasant place surrounded by nature and history, a little "divine kiss" to give peace and fun.
