We leave for a new adventurous session of fishing from the boat with the aim of undermining gilthead sea bream with the Bottom fishing technique.
Late December, cold day, rough sea and the company of the Maver team, these are the ingredients of the new fishing session protagonist of today's article on Piscor Magazine.
We immediately take off to reach the fishing spot, a "secret" shoal with a depth ranging between 30 and 45 meters, where you can fish in a not too deep bottom fishing technique.
The objective of the day is the gilthead sea bream, so we will fish with a classic bottom fishing setting: 2 hooks and 2 snoods of about 90 centimeters, but special measures will be applied precisely to make the fishing arrangements more targeted to the fish we want to undermine. For example, you will be careful to leave a mini extension under the last snood so that it allows you to feel better the shy bites of the gilthead sea bream.
The fishing lines are built with the brand new Maver SLR, a latest generation fluorocarbon, made in Japan. The real strength of this fluorocarbon, sold in 75-metres spools, is its resistance, 30% higher than traditional fluorocarbons, and its incredible softness, an essential characteristic for fishing gilthead sea bream, fish that have very shy touches and must be immediately perceived and fixed in order not to lose their catch.
The session is the ideal opportunity to test also the new equipment by Maver for 2019 dedicated to boat fishing. The first to take to the field is the Dark Side Boat 5 meters, a reliable rod and strictly designed for this type of fishing technique. Since the current does not seem to be very strong, the line is prepared with a 100-grams white-green Maver lead.
The first catches arrive soon even if the size of the gilthead sea bream is rather small, but the Maver experts do not give up and continue the search for larger specimens trying to seduce them with two exceptional triggers, that of the sardine and that of the squid stripes.
Preparing the sardine trigger requires a few simple steps: it is pierced with a hook and sewn along the entire length that you want the bite to have, which must be proportioned from time to time to the size of the prey to be undermined. Once the length has been defined, the line is blocked with a noose on the tail of the sardine and the excess part of the sardine is cut on the other side.
Slightly more elaborate is the trigger of the squid stripes, which must be opened, cleaned of the guts, peeled to make it whiter and finally cut into thin stripes with the help of a scissors. The stripes are then individually sewn around the hook so as to cover it completely and the trap is ready to enter the water.
Alongside the boat rods, the Maver experts decide to test the renowned reliability of a rod not specifically designed for this fishing technique, the Invincible Extreme 4 meters, the latest in the famous series of bolo rods designed for fishing in difficult conditions and to withstand prey such as sturgeons in freshwater, and large prey in the sea.
A strong rod but at the same time light and balanced, which goes into the water with a lighter setting, a lead of 40 grams for current fishing and coming off the bottom of about 2 meters. A rod that once again does not deny its name and manages to hold its own impeccably to the boat rods.
The real protagonist of the session, however, is the Katana C002 hook, which for years has been synonymous with incredible strength, absolute sturdiness and great sharpness. A hook used in various fishing techniques thanks to the wide range, which allows you to have a maximum size of 5/0 and a minimum of 14. A hook that best expresses all its characteristics in the fishing of gilthead sea bream because it can pass through with extreme ease and without deforming the strong bone plates of the fish.
