The tremerella fishing is considered the queen of all the fishing techniques in trout lake. The short and sensitive rod is almost an extension of your arm, the line is simple and into direct contact with the bait. Let’s see now what we need to know about rods, reels, lines and ways of fishing.
Lake trout rods have to be soft and sensitive to detect the smallest bite, but at the same time they must be strong and powerful.
Their length is always around 3.60 and 4 m. The reel must be compact and light, 2500/3000 sized, no matter if it has a rear or front drag because it is useless in 99% of cases.
The line is simple but it can vary a lot and, according to its variations, you will catch more or less fishes over the same period.
In order to build a perfect presentation you should choose a 0.16/0.18 line, a 3g short lead, a rolling swivel and a final line of about 60/70 cm. The hook, sized of 7/8, has to be thin and suitable for hooking spinning baits.
Lead or not?
On the market you can find all sort of lake trout leads, of every sizes and shapes, and each of them has got a specific action. There are no fixed rules about their usage, choose your favorite one. A short lead will sink faster than a slim lead. But the short one is more easily detectable for fishes.
Regarding the encapsulation of the lead, you have to know that adding a lighter material to the lead will decrease its weight, and so its capacity of sinking.
The length of the terminal line
It is very important to change the terminal line length in the different moments of the day.
You can start with a 0,16-0,18 line of 40 – 60 cm in the start phase and then change it with a 0,16-0,14 line of 60 – 80 cm in the middle of the competition, finally you can use a 0, 12 or 0, 10 line with a length of 110/130 cm, giving the bait a soft and natural movement.
Hooks
You can start with a 6 sized hook , and then put a 7/8, hooking a white superworm or a couple of waxworms, when the fish stops biting you will put a No 10. Hooks must be light and suitable for baits which have to rotate.
Fishing action
Once you have hooked the line at the maximum distance, as soon as the hook will touch the water close the bail and start recovering your line alternating fast recovery moments shaking your rod and shorter moments till the hook will get the last cm of water.
Trout eats even under your feet and with an emerging bait and a lead out of the water. With such an action you can explore the top layers of the lake and floating fish. If you don’t get any bites, just look deeper in water casting and counting to 3 before starting the recovery.
Let’s repeat the same operations raising, from time to time, the seconds of sinking. Once you find the place where trout are you have just to count to the same seconds every time to be sure to be in the same place.
The bite, often definite and distinct, is easily detectable on the tip of the rod. When it happens you have to reply with a strong hooking action and a quick recovery.
In competitions or in leisure fishing sometimes the bite is not very decisive so you have to be very concentrate and pay attention. When the line is at its maximum traction you have decisively hook the fish.
