A new episode of Feeder on Tour with the Tubertini team: an itinerant floating feeder fishing session on the banks of Santerno River, born on the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and crossing these two regions for 99 km before throwing itself into the Rhine, of which it is the largest affluent.
The objective of the session is the chub, to be threatened with chompers, and some barbels, to be sought with a more classic mounted running rig and block-end feeder.
The one recorded for this special episode is an unusual session when it comes to feeder fishing, a session not only touring, but that has engaged the skilled fishermen for two days characterized by very different weather conditions and variables, but full of strong emotions and many beautiful catches.
The main bait that went into the field is undoubtedly the maggot, used both to load the feeder and bait the fishing area, and as a trigger.
Many beautiful pits shown by the Tubertini experts who, for this session, moved from the mountain down to the valley. During the first day, characterized by the presence of sun, clear water, almost transparent, has given incredible specimens. During the second day, the weather conditions became more difficult and the rain, sometimes very persistent, "dirty" the beautiful waters of Santerno river, pushing them to stop fishing.
Among the main equipment, the new, high-performance R18 Feeder, a 12-feet model with medium/light action, could certainly not be missing; a rod equipped with the softness necessary to best handle large fish such as 1-kilo chub.
The rod has been matched with the Toda 6500, a powerful reel with reduced dimensions, loaded with monofilament of 0.18 connected to a shock leader of 0.25 measure.
For bottom fishing and method feeder the Tubertini experts chose the 13 foot Excess Feeder to handle the launches of block-end feeder of about 30-40 grams.
During this two-day feeder river fishing, two main settings were successfully used: the floating feeder one and the classic block-end running rig.
As every fisherman knows, everything must be adapted and calculated according to the setting of the catch, so much that the Tubertini experts opted for a system that would allow the various settings to be changed quickly and without too much discomfort.
Without any doubt, ideal for those sessions in which you have to walk a lot and can only take with you what is strictly necessary. A quick-release swivel is attached to the main line, which will allow the final part of the line to be quickly replaced during fishing. A piece of sheath, large enough to cover the swivel and the knots, will be run over this system, thus reducing tangles and any risk of the hook to be stranded.
To perfectly complement this fishing system, the settings have been made with pieces of 40-50 cm of 0.25 and connected to the swivel on the main line by a buttonhole created at one of the two ends.
The setting that was undoubtedly the most successful during the two days of fishing was the one with floating feeder, simple and essential but undoubtedly the ideal solution for fishing on the bottom of rivers. A stopper, a swivel with snap and another stopper to lock the swivel, a braid to close a swivel with quick release opening and 0.10 rig of about 40 cm, which was connected to a number 20 hook of the 229 series and that's it.
