A fish that lives both in sea and in the salty waters, we can find the sea bass everywhere.
This medium-large size fish has a compressed body, covered with medium sized flakes. The shape of the head is quite large, as is the mouth with a pronounced jaw armed with many small teeth.
Speaking of the habits of the sea bass we can immediately say that this fish of euryhaline species often moves from sea to fresh waters especially in the phase of high water, optimal time, also to undermine it.
However, we can also find the sea bass several kilometers from the mouth. The immature and sub-adult subjects have gregarious habits, whilst the bigger specimens we may meet them in pairs or even isolated.
How to fish
We can threaten the sea bass with many fishing techniques. Obviously, if you want to catch the difficult large specimens that roam the coast you must necessarily prefer techniques where you use voluminous baits. Usually the most interesting catches are made by spinning or with live baits.
The best times to catch a good specimen of sea bass are in winter when the larger fish move inside the mouths to catch the small eels that go up the river.
We can be successful on this fish even if fishing with the beloved Bolognese, the most used ever, or with the roubaisienne in particularly technical spots. We see in the following lines to go into more detail.
Cross and delight of the fans, the sea bass is a species which is stationed for a good part of the year close to the mouth, it would be, however, more correct to say that in many cases it lives there all year round, and the bigger specimens go up to tens of kilometres of ascent, sharing the habitat with the fresh water fishes, which, in many cases, become their favorite food.
The sea bass is one of the most appreciated and "hunted" fish by the fishermen of the mouth, because, in addition to the goodness of the meat, it is a moody fish and particularly sensitive to tidal movements and weather changes, therefore more exciting to undermine.
Obviously, like most predators, it can happen that on special evenings they get into food frenzy for events completely unknown to man and it is easy to catch many fish, and then, the next evening, they are non-existent. In a few simple words, this is the sea bass.
Bolognese
One of the fishing techniques practiced by the fishermen who decided to focus their attention on the fish of the mouth, is the Bolognese. This technique, as well as being very productive especially in early autumn, offers the fisherman a unique fun.
To fish at the mouth, you must be equipped with a Bolognese of at least seven meters with a medium-stiff action, so that you can take advantage of it for the different situations that may arise. The rod must be equipped with a small reel loaded with at least 0.14 nylon if you fish with maggots, 0.16 if you fish with other types of bait.
Equipment
To fish with the Bolognese, the equipment must be composed of a few, but very useful accessories. Therefore, some nylon spools for rigs, better if in fluorocarbon, of 0,10/0,14, some bags of hooks of measure included from n. 10 to 18, a well assorted box of leads and a container for floats of measure variable from 1 to 8 g, are what is needed to realize a mounting in any water condition.
With the roubaisienne
Contrary to what you might think, the fishing in the mouth with maggots, imposes strict rules for a successful fishing.
There are places, where the bottom is shallow, sometimes does not reach the meter and a half, but, during high waters, the fish enter into activity. In this particular condition, those who fish with very light mountings will have the better of them by making fast and precise passes.
In such conditions, it is practically impossible to fish with the Bolognese, because it is unlikely that we will be able to keep a small float of 0.20 in fishing. Here comes the scene of fishing with the roubaisienne, a technique for fine palates, ready to give strong emotions even at the mouth. with this technique as well as being very precise in the past, we will also be very precise in baiting.
Baits
Sea bass can be successfully undermined with many baits. The most used one is the universal maggot, capable, especially in autumn, of being very captivating.
To make the selection, you must use the live shrimp, easily found between the holes of the rocks, or just below the dock attached to the wall. To see the shrimps will be very easy, it will be enough, to illuminate the chosen zone with a torch and we will see the eyes of the crustaceans which are reflective.
At this point, it will be enough to lower in water a net with inside a piece of sardine that the shrimps curious and hungry will enter without problems. At this point, just put them in a bucket equipped with oxygenator, taking care to change the water at least every hour. The water to be used should always be that of the place where we found them, because, the shrimp is a crustacean very sensitive to changes in salinity.
